Little Elm Police Lose One of Their Own in Standoff

Denton County sadly lost a hero yesterday.

Little Elm Police Department Detective Jerry Walker, 48, was fatally shot after responding to a report of an individual with a gun at a residence near Lakeside Middle School in Little Elm. The suspect, who died after a six hour standoff, has been identified as Rudy Garcia.

Police officers from Frisco, The Colony, Little Elm and the Denton County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the call. Some students in Little Elm ISD had to stay on campus until the standoff ended and it was deemed safe for them to leave.

Walker had been with the Little Elm Police Department since 1998. He leaves behind a wife and four children.
